The Apparition

Paraguay.  At the close of the 19th century, the nation is a mysterious anarchic backwater that had just suffered one of the most destructive defeats in history.  Following the War of the Triple Alliance, ninety percent of its men are dead – many of them only boys.

The Apparition recounts the tale of Emiliano Veracruz de Cáceres y Domínguez, who along with his two brothers, was forced to fight the war as a child soldier. Although Emilio survives, he is not left without scars after witnessing the deaths of his mother and youngest brother, Cristiàn.

Years later, Emilio embarks on a journey to exact revenge on those that tore his family apart. Aided by entities from native Guaraní mythology, visions of deceased family members, and a bizarre, disembodied voice, Emilio unwittingly begins to thwart a plot to install a dictatorship that could plunge his country back to war. But his task becomes far more complicated when Emilio reunites with his older long-lost brother, Rodrigo, who is now an officer in the army and an integral part in the plot to overthrow their government.

The two brothers., who for years though each other dead, must now choose where their loyalties lie - with their country, with their family, or with themselves.
